If you’re like most, a trip to the hairdresser is also a chance to have a great chat while you get pampered and doted on, and then come out looking fabulous! What does this have to do with a boat and a birthday? Kate has been my hair dresser for most of my time in Amsterdam. Her cuts, styling, advice and laid back nature always make for a satisfying visit. Over the years, I have shown up at the salon many a time, tin box in hand, looking for willing taste-testers for my recipes. The team at KAROSA: Kate, Ronald, and Sam (my colourist extraordinaire!) are each sporting a sweet tooth and have a particular affinity for my cookies, cakes, bites, and bars.
In July, Kate celebrated a special birthday by cruising with friends through the canals of Amsterdam. Because it was a gathering whose venue was the limited space of a boat, the catering needed to be easy to store and just as easy to dish out. I took on preparing the desserts: providing cookies, cake-bites, and bars for 40 people. At the end of the evening, tins were empty, bellies were satisfied, and hearts were filled with great memories.
